Scene: 2
Haydee discovers Tjanja standing in the hallway, the very one she is about to be murdered. She too has a deep jealousy of the woman due to the way she holds her loving Monte Cristo's heart yet treats it like a tattered rag. In her rage, she draws her dagger and is about to step forward from the shadows but is halted by what comes to pass before her. The attempted murder of Tjanja. The murder very nearly succeeds, but Tjanja is too fast and too quick and although she suffers some terrible wounds, she is alive. Haydee emerges from the shadows and faines aid to the wounded Tjanja. Only at the last moment, like hamlet to king David, slits her throat and leaves her to bleed out and die like a lamb to slaughter. Disappearing, leaving the stage set for all blame to be firmly placed on Alessandros failed assasin.
